In the 1960s there was a type of cars introduced to the world called muscle cars. These vehicles were stylish and smooth and contained a strong motor. Many of these vehicles featured a V-8 engine that has been geared for speed. As these cars were made the companies were in stiff competition with one another. We were led into an era of some of the fastest vehicles of our time, as each manufacturer tried to out do the other. Without thought to gas and fuel efficiency, Americans was having time in their lives. Their cars were quick and eye-catching, both on the race course and on the trail. Rushing lines and fancy stickers made a statement about both the car and the driver. It seemed the flashier the automobile the more attractive. At the same time once the luxury automobile was the master of the street for your married set, the younger group wanted something sportier, quicker, and smaller. The Shelby Mustang and the 440 Roadrunner are two of the fast cars which were developed to match the desire for powerful and speed. There have been a lot more fast cars ahead. Camaros, Chargers, GTOs, and Firebirds all tried to group just as much value beneath the hood as was possible. Corvettes provided speed and sleek type, nevertheless they also had a higher cost. All of the other high-performance cars offered an amount that has been affordable to the typical working-class people. The Gas Impact Through the 1960s and 70s automobile companies were riding on top of a of performance and speed. Then we entered a time where we were told gas was an issue and we were destroying the ozone with this elegant automobile emissions. We reluctantly release our sporty and fast cars and took to the streets with a V4 and a V6. Fuel consumption and cheaper insurance charges compelled the fast cars onto the race course and off the highways. The desire for speed is likely to be with us always. We will probably never again view a time when speed and high performance applications are sold for your every day road car but we might get a view of these vehicles at the raceway o-r at vintage car shows. The baby boomers were around to see these vehicles at their beginning and they still take a for them today. Many will spend a small fortune to replace one of these brilliant initial fast cars back to their former splendor.
